Tune in and get hands-on media experience with our award-winning student radio station, Smoke Radio.

What we do

Smoke Radio is run entirely by and for Westminster students. We broadcast a variety of shows 24 hours a day via our website and streaming apps.

We produce shows from our studio in Harrow Campus and satellite studios at Cavendish Campus. We also host pre-recorded podcasts.

Why get involved?

Find your student voice

Student radio gives you a platform to share your views, challenge ideas and campaign for change – both on campus and beyond.

You'll play a part in shaping the conversation, including holding Students' Union officers to account during election and throughout the year.

Grow yourself

From soft skills to real-world experience, what you'll gain goes far beyond the studio. You'll build confidence, develop connections and learn how multimedia production works in the creative industries today.

You'll also have the chance to cover major events like National Student Pride, creating content with celebrity and high-profile guests for cross-platform broadcast.

Develop new skills

You'll get hands-on with industry-standard equipment and software, learning core skills such as:

  • operating studio equipment
  • recording and editing video
  • podcasting and scriptwriting
  • social media content creation
  • event planning and team collaboration

Whether you're just starting out or already creating, it's a great way to grow your portfolio and boost your career prospects.

Future careers

Smoke Radio alumni have gone on to roles across the creative industries – from the BBC and commercial radio to digital media production and music promotion.

Our awards

We've won a staggering 29 awards at the National Student Radio Awards in categories such as Best Entertainment Event and Best Specialist Music Show.

We've been crowned with the Gold award for Best Student Radio Station in the UK twice. As part of our prize in 2019, we took over three early breakfast shows on BBC Radio 1, producing and presenting over five hours of content for a national and global audience.

Who's eligible?

If you're a current student at Westminster, you can get involved. No experience is needed – just a passion for any aspect of digital content, from music, radio and podcasts to video and blogging.
